AVCA is currently accepting applications for its Pilot Micro-grant Program to fund events for the Alta Vista community.
There are five grants available: two grants worth $500 per grant, and three grants worth
$150 per grant.
Any resident within the Alta Vista Community Association catchment area is eligible to apply. This is intended to become a revolving fund (i.e., funds granted are expected to help generate revenue which will be plowed back into the fund for future grants).
Types of Events We are Hoping to Fund Could Include:
- Singing in the park with a local church choir;
- Group knitting at Rideau Park United Church;
- Community skate event at AV skating rink in conjunction with AV public school;
- Speed dating at Canterbury Community Centre alongside other community associations;
- A “learn about the river” walk with a local conservation group; and
- High tea in costume at Billings Estate.
General Eligibility
Events that can be funded by the AVCA micro-grants must meet the following conditions:
- The event must bring together community members who don’t usually attend AVCA meetings or
committees; - The event must be a NEW event or an expansion of a previously existing event;
- The event can be directed at an age or family demographic, but cannot be exclusive to that
demographic (i.e. it can’t say “only seniors welcome”); - The event must be in collaboration with a community partner (a school, community group,
business, etc.); and - The event must be held in Ward 18.
Grant Application Requirements
Successful grants must include the following:
- Must include a plan for advertisement of the event;
- Must include the number of intended attendees (grants for $150 must anticipate at least 20 people,
and grants for $500 must anticipate at least 60 people); - Must have a plan to make the event annual or repetitive;
- Must provide a report at the end of the event;
- Must provide itemized budget for the whole project and clarify what percentage would be
covered by the microgrant, as well as a plan to obtain the difference; and - Must include a plan to generate the amount of the grant in profits to return back into the AVCA
grant fund for future grants (such funding can come from membership purchases, food sales, etc).
This is critical to ensuring that the micro-grant can continue in future years.
